“I am an EFL teacher with over 5 years experience working with children and young adults. After graduating from the University of Hertfordshire in 2008 with a First-class honours degree in International Business, I travelled abroad to teach English as a foreign language. I spent last year teaching in adult education in Shanghai, China.
Teaching abroad has helped me learn a lot of people skills. As a teacher you have to be an excellent communicator; sometimes strong and energetic to keep the class motivated, but sometimes laid back and soft to keep the class relaxed. It’s very important to be flexible with your communication style and to be aware of the mood in the classroom to create an effective learning environment.
In terms of teaching, I have teaching English to students of all different educational levels, from absolute beginner; introducing the alphabet, to very advanced; focusing on business English and perfecting the accent. In terms of childcare I have experience caring for large groups of children (extended summer camp live-in experience) as well as small groups (babysitting and working one-to-one with children with special needs). I am predominantly a teacher with child care experience.
My mother tongues are English and Cantonese, and I speak conversational Mandarin and German. I’m currently working to perfect my Mandarin and German, and in the future I hope to also pick up Spanish and sign language. As you can tell learning is one of my passions!
My hobbies include reading, cooking and playing sports, although my main hobby is travelling and working in different countries. So far I have worked in Germany, Greece, China and South Korea. I am currently living in London but would be open to relocating.
I am currently looking to work as a nanny/ educator within a family. I would like to focus on caring for and developing the education of individuals to concentrate on their needs and maximise their potential, but most importantly I am looking to work with a kind and caring family.
