Housekeeper Sought – Married Male Couple in Berlin, Germany

Our client, a married male couple moving into a new apartment in Berlin, Germany is seeking an experienced housekeeper. They are a friendly entrepreneurial couple from London, England.

Their London housekeeper is remaining in London to look after their house there and look after them when they are in London.

The property is a 6 room, luxury penthouse apartment in Berlin-Mitte. In addition, they have a second, 3 room apartment for guests on Karl Marx Allee and an office on Strausbergerplatz.

They are looking for an experienced housekeeper to look after them and their daschund, when they are in Berlin.

They are looking for a cheerful, professionally trained, hard-working, discreet and very flexible housekeeper with several years of experience in domestic service.

The job is to look after all three properties – their main home, guest apartment, and the office. Most time will be spent at their main apartment in Berlin-Mitte, the guest apartment will need housekeeping on an “as-needed basis” and the office (studio) will need some attention maybe three days per week.

Looking after their dog, a very friendly miniature daschund, is a key part of the role and therefore being a dog lover is essential.

The housekeeper is responsible for the dogs food, walks, trips to the vets and regular baths and brushing, especially in the winter after walks when he gets wet.

As well as cleaning and tidying, mopping wooden floors, cleaning windows and managing deliveries they need someone who can cook and prepare meals.

Laundry and ironing is a big part of the role and their housekeeper needs to have excellent organisation skills.

The couple has a keen interest in design and architecture so they need a housekeeper who has a good attention to detail to keep things in the right place.

They travel often and they also often have guests staying either in the main residence or in their guest apartment in Berlin.

Managing linen, changing beds and handling laundry for guests is an important aspect of the job.

Some key duties will include:

  • Daily cleaning and tidying, dusting and polishing
  • Shopping, managing the kitchen and household supplies
  • Cooking and food preparation
  • Laundry and ironing, clothing management and repair
  • Dry cleaning collection and management
  • Window cleaning
  • Packing and unpacking suitcases when we are travelling
  • Receiving contractors and courier deliveries
  • Collecting and dropping off parcels and letters
  • Bed Making and linen washing, ironing, and management
  • Looking after the dog – walking, bathing, brushing and feeding

They do travel a lot, both separately and together and there will be some periods when they are not in Berlin.

At these times the hours of work will be significantly less although full salary will still be paid.

In exchange, the housekeeper will need to look after their dog which the housekeeper can do either at her/his own home or by staying in their guest room.

Working hours are normally 32 – 40 hours per week between Monday and Friday. They are most interested in a job being well done, rather than counting the number of hours worked, so on occasions where all the work can be done in less hours, they like the housekeeper to leave and go home early and they will pay the full normal salary.

Our client expects this to be a long term appointment – their current housekeeper in London has been with them for over seven years.

Flexibility is key as experience has shown that their needs change over time and their schedules often change at short notice.

Our client is a generous and kind employer in return.

German and English speaking is essential and they obviously consider candidates that already have the right to work in Germany.
