BUTLER FOR YOU is conducting a confidential search on behalf of a long-established and highly respected private family in Atherton, California, for an accomplished House Manager / Valet to join their senior household team.
The Appointment
This role is suited to a consummate private service professional whose career has been shaped by excellence within internationally recognised luxury hotels, exclusive resorts, or distinguished private estates. The principals place particular value on a European approach to service—subtle, intuitive, and immaculately presented—delivered with natural warmth, composure, and absolute discretion.
The successful candidate will act as a steady and reassuring presence within the household, ensuring that daily operations, service delivery, and entertaining are executed to the highest standards, without intrusion or excess.
Core Responsibilities
The House Manager / Valet will operate within a well-structured household environment and will work collaboratively alongside an established senior team, including a Chief of Staff, an Estate Manager, a Facilities Manager, multiple housekeepers, and a team of nannies.
• Uphold and continuously refine household presentation and operational standards in collaboration with the domestic team
• Provide attentive, discreet, and personalised service to principals and their guests
• Oversee and coordinate household personnel and external contractors, ensuring precision, reliability, and consistency
• Manage the planning and delivery of private entertaining, from intimate gatherings to formal occasions
• Ensure the residence operates seamlessly, calmly, and with impeccable organisation at all times
Professional Requirements
• Substantial experience gained within elite hospitality environments or private households of comparable calibre
• Formal British butler training and established private service experience are strongly preferred
• A proven record of long-term engagement and loyalty within previous appointments
• Exceptional personal presentation, professional judgement, and an instinctive understanding of refined service
• Full legal authorisation to live and work in the United States
