House Manager/Cook (Live In) In Surrey Required

Key Duties and Responsibilities (Job description):
Traditional butler – well spoken and well presented; hard working and taking pride in what he does; responsible for managing and hands on running of all aspects of the household other than childcare; care of silver, art, antiques; valet duties, in particular, gentleman’s valet of highest standard for an ex-RAF officer; meticulous attention to detail required;
Cook – high standard of cooking to include small (upto 8) house parties and also daily family cooking for children and grown-ups;
Housemanager – liaising with builders/contractors/suppliers on various projects (eg garden design, bathrooms refurbishment);
Care and arranging maintenance of all household equipment, eg Laurastar, Aga, etc; maximising household efficiency
Chauffer – driving children to school, classes, parties; airport and station journeys for the family; taking care of 5 cars, arranging MOT, service etc
Further duties include taking care of the dog (there is a dog walker); house and dog sitting when family away; liaising with the stables re horse & pony care.
Numbers in Household (Adults, Kids)
2 adults (plus an elderly aunt stays regularly for extended periods) and 2 children (ages 4 and 7)

One dog (may increase to two in the near future); stabled horse and pony

Can be either, but hours are long and house sitting required when family away; current butler is normally live in during the week and away at weekends; the accommodation is in the house (bedroom, kitchenette, bathroom, with own entrance)
How many hours and days per week
5 days a week with full flexibility; most nights finishing by 9-10pm, but could be later if entertaining/ waiting for family to return from functions; start needs to be flexible but normally around 7.30 am; flexibility needed if entertaining over the weekend in which case days off would be changed by prior agreement; house and dog sitting when family away would sometimes require seven days coverage; needs to plan the day and break times accordingly
Salary: in the region of £50 to £55k gross
Holidays and other benefits:
4 wks holiday plus UK bank holidays; live in accommodation as described above if required
Travel required
Not currently envisaged since the house and dog need to be attended to when the family is away

Native or fluent English
Driver
Essential – confident/experienced/careful as duties include driving children
Location: a small village with easy access to London (40 mins by train to London Waterloo)
